Sybase Adds Meta Data Through Intellidex Acquisition

In an effort to round out its data warehousing offerings, Sybase (Emeryville, CA) has acquired Intellidex Systems (Winthrop, MA), a provider of meta data management technology for data warehouses. The acquisition gives Sybase a robust, integrated meta data management tool to add to its data access and data management technology. "This acquisition supports Sybase's solutions focus for 1998, and significantly enhances our offering in the data warehousing arena," said Eric Miles, senior VP of product operations at Sybase. The deal addresses a key issue facing companies looking to data warehousing in order to manage their information, according to Meta Group (Stamford, CT) senior research analyst Liz Shahnam. "Meta data management is a critical component in enterprise-wide data warehousing," she said. "This acquisition raises the bar in the industry push towards providing integrated data warehousing solutions to meet real-world business needs." Intellidex president and CEO Jack Sweeney will serve as VP and GM of Sybase's Data Warehousing business unit. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
