Supercharged search

Inktomi has released the latest version of Enterprise Search, which is designed to find and identify relevant content across corporate networks and Web sites and provides system administrators with more intuitive, streamlined server management.

The company reports new features include:

Improved relevance and query Enterprise Search 5.0 is said to provide significantly improved relevance for multiple word queries. Additionally, in cases where queries return no results, the system now suggests less restrictive alternate queries.

Quick summaries Document descriptions in search results are dynamically created from relevant passages in the document text that include the user query term.

Spell check Version 5.0 suggests alternative spellings for misspelled queries. The dictionary is built from terms contained within the index, ensuring that suggested query terms will match documents that exist to make it easier for users to quickly find the right information.

Administration user interface enhancements A new, streamlined interface allows for more intuitive administration and management as well as enhanced security features, such as additional password options and the ability to block IP addresses for multiple failed login attempts.

Inktomi Enterprise Search 5.0 is part of a comprehensive line of enterprise-class information retrieval products that include categorization and XML technologies to address more advanced knowledge management requirements.

In late breaking news, Verity and Inktomi (NASDAQ: INKT) have jointly announced an agreement under which Verity will acquire Inktomi's enterprise search business. Verity will pay a purchase price of $25 million in cash.
