Streamlining the Data Stream

Software to streamline data collection for financial services and insurance companies is being released by Recognition Research Inc.Recognition Research Inc. FormWorks Internet Edition expands RRI's forms processing system to enable data input and output through the Web, XML, electronic data interchange (EDI) and other formats.

According to RRI, EDI streams have been inaccurate or incomplete, requiring manual intervention from a claims processor. With the new edition of FormWorks, the stream can be cleaned up, according to Chris Thompson, executive VP of RRI, by converting to XML and applying the tools to improve accuracy on scanned claims."In one health insurance scanning application alone, we have programmed over 11,000 rules for validating data," says Thompson.

"The cost would be prohibitive, and the maintenance would be staggering to write those all over again for EDI and then for the Web, and then build an XML environment. With Internet Edition, you get all of this capability out of the box."

Regarding Web entry of HCFA claims, EI has an unusual browser-based data entry screen to input claims or other information from the Internet.

"The Web interface is designed for single practitioner and smaller healthcare providers where EDI is not cost-effective," says Thompson. "The Web form has many benefits over current e-forms designs, especially because of the ability to do look-ups on the fly, presenting alternatives immediately, thus driving down the cost to process."

The new product will be unveiled at AIIM and will be generally available in June. FormWorks pricing starts at about $100,000.
