Smith Micro Buys Mitek's Fax Business

In another step of ongoing efforts to reorganize and return to profitability, Mitek (San Diego) has sold its server-based fax business to Smith Micro (Aliso Viejo, CA) for an undisclosed amount of cash. With this deal, Mitek sheds another layer of non-core technology skin, as it strives to cut losses and return to profitability. Smith Micro adds Internet and intranet faxing technologies that will complement its desktop fax software product line, and will open doors to the LAN-based and enterprise fax server markets. Specifically, Smith Micro has acquired Mitek's FaxShare, Intrafax and I-paper fax technology. The deal is but one part of Smith Micro's three-tiered strategy of expanding its market reach in the corporate and government marketplace, according to president and CEO William Smith.
