Simplified database deployment

Alpha Software has introduced Alpha Five V 6.0, which is said to allow professional developers to create Web-hosted databases in less than 10% of the time currently required to program in languages such as PHP, ASP, Perl or JavaScript. Further, says Alpha, non-developers can now create Web databases similar to those developed by professionals.

The company says Web-enabled database applications allow companies and non-profit organizations to include systems for lead tracking, order entry, catalogs, scheduling, membership registration, CRM, etc., on their Web sites.

V 6.0 is a relational database application that lets both programmers and non-programmers create desktop database applications without the need to write any code. Action Scripting and hundreds of genies do the work. Alpha Five includes its own Web application server and is also designed to work with the Apache Web application server for load balancing in high-transaction environments.

Alpha Software says its new offering gives IT departments the ability to develop new applications--to be used by employees and customers around the globe--that work with data from their existing ODBC-compliant databases such as MySQL, IBM DB2, MS Access, Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle and QuickBooks.
