Semio and Primix form alliance

Semio and Primix Solutions have joined forces to deliver customized web portals using Semio’s taxonomy and categorization software. Semio Taxonomy creates customized, browseable category structures for Web portals. Primix Solutions partners with its clients to deliver e-commerce, customer relationship management, supply chain management and knowledge management solutions.

“We like the way Primix approaches its clients. It’s not about selling a product, it’s about solving a problem,” says Roger Huele, Semio’s VP for business development. He explains that Primix wanted to build up specific knowledge regarding categorizing and metatagging information while looking toward becoming an alliance partner with Semio in order to distribute that technology to its customer base. If the customer so chooses, Primix will provide the professional consulting service around Semio’s products and then implement and maintain the solution.

While there’s no lack of corporate conversation about XML and the importance of tagging documents, too many organizations are falling short by “just tagging it with author, date and maybe the title,” Huele says. They fail to capture what the text is about and associate tags to the context of the text. “We can actually extract phrases, see how they participate in the taxonomy, tag them and associate a weight to that tag,” he says.

“A document is nothing more that of vessel of many ideas. It needs to be categorized in relation to the concepts within it. When a user scrolls through our categories, they see specific concepts from text that relate to each specific category. We don’t relate a document to a category, we relate a concept to a category.”

“Within those diverse needs of those solutions, the needs that seem to keep coming up categorization and retrieving information, and Semio allows Primix to offer consulting services around categorization and creation of metatags around individual documents.”
