Security Top Concern for Corporate Intranets

According to a new study from International Data Corporation (IDC, Framingham, MA), corporations have a list of concerns when deciding on implementing an intranet-ready data center. Topping the list of concerns is security, which 92% of respondents named as important or critical to evaluating deployment of Web-to-host emulation products. For 21% of respondents, security is the one factor that will most influence their selection of such products. The report,

Intranet Migration Plans, provides insight as to what customers look for when purchasing an intranet-ready data center. IDC predicts that revenue from the worldwide market for Web-to-host browser license shipments will increase from $22.8 million in 1997 to $1 billion by 2002. "Organizations will be looking to leverage installed high-speed equipment into application development," said Lucinda Borovick, program manager for IDC's Intranet Networking Architectures program. "Customer migrations to a standard interface provide the most feasible environment to date for extending corporate application access to remote employees, partners, and customers."
