Search to the core

Fast Search & Transfer (FAST) has released the latest version of its Enterprise Search Platform (ESP), which the company describes as a core enterprise platform for making business decisions, improving corporate performance and creating revenue streams.

New features in FAST ESP 5 include:

Contextual Insight. FAST ESP 5 returns answers to questions—not references to answers—in a tightly controlled scope and with deep analysis of surrounding context. Contextual Insight, the underlying technology behind this capability, is the fusion of information retrieval and information analysis.

Search Business Center. At the heart of ESP 5, says FAST, is the new Search Business Center, which provides an intuitive, workflow-based user interface to enable centralized search management, tuning, configuration and monitoring.

Enhanced scalability. FAST says it can help reduce hardware cost through its efficient scalability. For example, the company reports, it has seen more than 2,000 queries per second, more 40 petabytes of data and packed more than 200 million documents of its index on a single low-cost commodity server. It has piloted clients starting at 10 billion documents, and provided analytics on over 200 parameters monitoring real-time trade data.

Increased flexibility. The FAST platform is an open information retrieval system, is vendor agnostic and supports all major platforms and operating systems, development and interface languages, storage configurations, and content sources.
