SciNet Adds 32x Speed to its Servers

SciNet (Sunnyvale, CA) has unveiled the first 32x speed drives for CD servers. The drives will be included in its LS Series, Series 700 and Series 2000 servers, with a data transfer speed of 4800 KB per second. "Fast access to CD-ROM-based data is very important," said SciNet VP Joseph Mendolia, adding that eliminating the time and complexity of copying files to a hard drive was a key concern. Servers with the new 32x drives range in price from $1,795 to $28,970, depending on the model and number of drives supported.
