Scan-Optics acquires Access Corp's Maintenance Division

Fresh off the acquisition of Southern Computer Systems (SCS), Scan-Optics has again opened its checkbook to expand its range of offerings. The company has agreed to purchase Access Corporation's Maintenance Division for $3.5 million in cash. The Maintenance Division has for the last several years focused primarily on its business with OEMs and distributors to supply on-site warranty and remedial maintenance for its more than 1000 customers. The division generated approximately $4.0 million of profitable revenues in fiscal year 1998. This deal joins two nationwide organizations each with over 30 years of experience in the hardware maintenance arena. "This particular acquisition will allow us to complement our field staff and immediately add more support and service revenue to our sales mix," said Scan-Optics CEO Jim Mavel. "We are pleased to have attracted this company to serve our customer base," added Scott Watkins, CEO of Access Corporation.
