Safety department taps CA for IT management

The Louisiana Department of Public Safety has brought in new technology to provide enterprise management capabilities for its IT management group. LADPS will use Computer Associates Unicenter TNG to administer the networks.

In addition, according to LADPS, the system will help control IT staffing costs.

LADPS, which includes the offices including the Highway Safety Commission, Office of Motor Vehicles and the State Police, will use Unicenter TNG to control thousands of desktop systems, applications and databases at remote locations across the state. The software will also allow the department to perform software upgrades for systems at more than 300 remote locations from its Baton Rouge headquarters. It is expected to help automate key processes, deliver system and network management services, monitor the health of IT assets, automate problem alerts and take corrective action when necessary.

"Without advanced technology and the appropriate tools to manage it, our agencies would not have access to the information they need to efficiently serve and protect the public," said Jeya Selvaratnam, LADPS deputy director, information systems and communications. "When you’re dealing with the complex administrative processes associated with traffic enforcement, criminal investigations, crime analysis, motor vehicle registration, fire safety and hazardous materials, you need to make sure you’ve got the right tools. We found Unicenter TNG to be the best answer for our current IT needs as well as the optimal solution for tackling the challenges and growing pains we expect in the future."
