SGI Releases New Data Mining Tool

Silicon Graphics (Mountain View, CA) has released Version 2.5 of its MineSet data mining tool. MineSet Version 2.5 offers boosting, which adjusts models to compensate for errors and increase their accuracy. MineSet Version 2.5 also includes decision tables to allow business and technical users to conduct OLAP operations with a visual paradigm. Other features include a clustering algorithm for segmenting similar data into clusters, a regression tree inducer for predicting continuous attributes (e.g. profits, revenues, market share) and ROI curves for depicting costs associated with recommended actions. "Silicon Graphics has created one of the best analytical and visual data mining solutions available today," said Aaron Zornes, VP of Application Delivery Strategies Services at META Group

(Stamford, CT). Coopers & Lybrand (Jersey City, NJ) is currently using the product. "We chose MineSet because we are aiming to integrate MineSet's unparalleled visualization tools with our state-of-the-art business intelligence tools we developed in-house," said Win Farrell, partner of C&L's Emerging Solutions Group. Available in May, MineSet Version 2.5 is priced at $23,000 for a single client/server configuration. MineSet Version 2.0 customers can upgrade free of charge.
