SDRC acquires certain Altris document management assets

In a move to add functionality and extensions to its Metaphase product data management (PDM) product offering, Structural Dynamics Research Corp (SDRC) has acquired document management software and personnel from Altris Software.

Altris and SDRC had been co-developing Rapid Information Presentation Services (RIPS) software to provide Metaphase users with document management functionality. SDRC now solely owns and supports the RIPS development, and plans to release the product by the end of this year.

Altris CEO Roger Erickson said the acquisition enables Altris "to focus on our core business of integrated document management systems" as it climbs back from recent financial troubles.

"Our customers have identified document management as one of the top priorities for their enterprise PDM needs," according to SDRC executive VP and COO Robert Nierman. "Document management is one of our expanding set of web-based, out-of-the-box solutions that we'll be delivering in the next year, to help our customers accelerate their PDM production success."
