Quickstream touts security features in DocCentral

Quickstream Software has released the latest version of its document management software, touting extreme security and integration with Storagetek archiving solutions. DocCentral Version 2.4 offers typical document management features like administration, searching, check-in/check-out, and version control/version history for documents ranging from basic text files to CAD drawings and graphics. The most notable addition is an integration with TriStrata Security's Random Keystream technology and security operating system; the combination provides unusually high document security, an important concern for companies with global offices. The product also integrates with Storagetek's near-line family of archiving solutions, which uses push technology and templates to synchronize files and folders on users' machines, Web servers, and other systems.

Seattle-based Modelwerks Inc., a manufacturer of wind tunnel and display models which counts Fortune 100 aerospace firms and the America's Cup team among its clients, is using the beta version of DocCentral 2.4 to manage and control their CAD and engineering documents. "We typically manage 400 to 500 engineering drawings and architectural prototypes on a single project & plus revisions," according to president Jay Paterson. "Document control is very important in what we do." Paterson claims the system is "the most user-friendly thing I've found. Eventually, I'd like to store all electronic documents for our entire company on the Quickstream system."

DocCentral Version 2.4 is Java-based, scalable, and uses Java Cryptography Extension to encrypt documents as they move to and from the server. Pricing for DocCentral Version 2.4 varies with license agreements; a 100-user license and Java server is approximately $60,000.
