Quark Unveils Digital Asset Management System

Quark (Denver) has unveiled a system that allows corporations to manage digital assets across their organization. The Quark Digital Media System (QuarkDMS) will enable electronic and multimedia publishers to manage a virtually unlimited number of digital assets across a company's LAN, WAN, or via the Internet. The system combines the publishing, prepress and document production know-how of Quark and recently-acquired Coris. QuarkDMS will initially be compatible with other Quark products and other third-party applications; future versions will work with Digital

's AlphaServer and Microsoft's SQL Server. "QuarkDMS can maximize our return on the investment we have made in digital content," said John Lindenberg, IT director of Independent Newspapers (Gauteng, South Africa) and an early test partner. "Our digital assets can be managed in such a way that they can be stored, accessed, used, and reused either for future projects or for resale opportunities." Quark is currently looking for partners to help develop XTensions for QuarkDMS. The system is expected to be available by the end of 1998; pricing has not yet been determined.
