Phone company takes document imaging to AP/AR and beyond

Southeastern telephone company CenturyTel is streamlining its accounts payable operations thanks to document imaging and archival software.

CenturyTel is one of the largest local exchange telephone companies in the United States, processing 30,000 invoices and vouchers each month at its Monroe, LA headquarters.

"We were looking for an imaging and archiving system to replace an outdated imaging system that we were using in accounting," said Tom Singletary, CenturyTel's VP of Information Systems.

CenturyTel is now implementing iXOS' Archive document imaging and archiving software in its accounting department, with links into the company's existing SAP R/3 system. The goal is to "extend the usage of workflow capabilities and productivity reporting and...monitor and improve our daily processes," said Doris Steffan, CenturyTel's accounts payable manager.

After the initial finance implementation, CenturyTel plans to expand the system into accounts receivable, and will use it to archive other SAP-generated data including materials management and human resources, said Singletary
