Northern Telecom selects Documentum's EDMS

Northern Telecom (Brampton, Ontario) is incorporating Documentum

's (Pleasanton, CA) EDMS software in its legal and human resource department. The prototype document management system will be used to author, approve, store and retrieve various procedures, forms and corporate information via NorTel's HR intranet application. Employees use the system to access information about the company's 401K program, the processing of forms and employee transactional information. With the system, NorTel's procedure changes will take less than a week, as compared to the current manual process which takes up to a month and a half. NorTel's project manager for its Automated Document Management (ADM) project says that the agreement is different than what they have done in the past. "Usually, a self-service initiative is an in-house development project, as opposed to purchasing from an outside vendor." Documentum's offering beat out six other vendors, using a list of 37 different criteria, compiled by twelve NorTel technicians and products and services managers.
