Northern Light takes on CI

Featuring customized, real-time search and e-mail alerts, Northern Light has developed RivalEye for corporate intranets. The company claims its new service is the only competitive intelligence offering that delivers content selected by professional editors as well as Web data integrated with business and news content.

Editors annotate and organize competitive information from the Web as well as from Northern Light's Article Archive of more than 7,000 journals, trade publications and news sources. Users can do a real-time search of either the entire Northern Light database or a selected vertical industry.

The company explains RivalEye is a Web-based “micro-site” on a single desktop page that integrates and organizes multiple competitive intelligence sources. The Competitor Section includes company profiles of major competitors and financial information from the SEC and other sources. The service also includes editorially defined searches for information on current M&As, products and product reviews, key personnel announcements, marketing initiatives, business alliances, recently awarded contracts and new customers.

Further, it extracts appropriate information from competitors' Web sites, providing links to information such as financial data, company news, executive profiles, organization charts, strategic plans and sales or marketing materials.

An Industry Business Section provides a look of the user’s core business sector by linking to industry news sites, associations, calendar of events and relevant market research.

Additionally, RivalEye users are notified via e-mail when a competitor announces a new product or service, modifies a relevant Web site, posts new job openings or enters new markets or locations.
