New name for, and software from, Seagate

Seagate Software has changed its name to Crystal Decisions and added two new products to its line of information infrastructure software: Crystal Reports 8.5 and Crystal Enterprise.

The company says Reports 8.5 offers content creation and analysis for delivery of interactive content from almost any XML, OLAP or relational data sources. Crystal Decision adds the software’s design capabilities produce documents that can be published to a number of formats including DHTML, RTF, Microsoft Excel; new to this release are PDF and XML

Crystal Decision says the new version allows the integration of content into rich-client (ActiveX, Java) or zero-client (HTML, DHTML) applications, adding that the new Report Engine and the Embeddable Designer Control enable developers to build interactive reports from within an application.

The company describes its Crystal Enterprise product as fully customizable Web-based infrastructure software that helps large organizations organize, categorize and deliver reports, analytics and strategic business information into any Web or enterprise application. Crystal Enterprise was engineered from the ground up, it says, for flexibility and customization, adding that it integrates into existing enterprise, Internet or corporate portal applications. Wireless Web devices are also supported.
