New MarkLogic release

MarkLogic has announced a new version of its namesake product, MarkLogic 5, which is said to help organizations get smarter answers faster by analyzing structured, unstructured and semi-structured data in the same application.

A highlight of the new release is MarkLogic Connector for Hadoop, which powers large-scale batch processing for big data analytics on the data residing inside MarkLogic. The company says that using its solution for real-time analytics with Hadoop for batch processing brings the best of big data to customers that want secure, high-performance applications that are also cost-effective.

MarkLogic says that with drop-in installation, organizations can run MapReduce on data inside MarkLogic and take advantage of Hadoop’s development and management tools, while being able to use MarkLogic’s indexes and distributed architecture for performance. The combination, MarkLogic adds, results in enhanced search, analytics and delivery, and allows organizations to progressively enhance data without having to remove it from the database.

Key capabilities of MarkLogic 5 include:

  • Ability to manage complexity. MarkLogic 5 helps organizations manage the complex, unstructured information driving the big data movement via such capabilities as rich media support, document filters and the Connector for Hadoop.
  • Confidence at scale. Organizations that require a big data solution can meet scale and reliability standards through enhancements like database replication and point-in-time recovery.
  • Enterprise big data. Enterprise-grade features that tackle big data challenges include tiered storage, simplified monitoring and additional plug-ins.
