Naval air base approaches supply chain management

Cherry Point Naval Air Depot (Cherry Point, NC) will use technology to decrease maintenance cycle times and deliver parts to users on demand.

The supply chain management system from Raytheon Systems will predict aircraft wear rates and track procurement and delivery requirements, allowing Depot personnel to maintain spare parts and materials warehousing for each aircraft on-site.

The system is part of a Defense Industrial Supply Center pilot program geared to reduce inventory investments and decrease maintenance cycle times. On a grander scheme, the initiative will help shift the base's supply chain operations from a warehouse-stocking approach to a just-in-time delivery method.
