Metadata mania

Inxight reports it has made significant enhancements to its MetaText Server product, including a repository for efficiently storing metadata; a collection manager for easy scheduling of Web and file system crawls to continually update information stored in repositories; simple concept search integration with third-party search engines; and the addition of full-text search, including Boolean query support for Italian, Portuguese and Dutch.

The company adds that Version 2.0 offers the following features:

  • automatic document summarization, which dynamically identifies key sentences in documents to create an intelligent summary in, the company claims, a fraction of a second;

  • “Thing Finder” automatic entity extraction, which identifies and extracts key entities--names of people, places and things from documents--and groups them by category;

  • related document finder, which easily locates and delivers all other similar documents for a given document;

  • concept search, which provides advanced search capabilities to organize search results into a hierarchy of shared topics and themes;

  • full text search , which features keyword search with a Boolean information retrieval model for specifying the exact information needed; and

  • language support for English, French, German, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese and Dutch.

Inxight says MetaText Server 2.0 supports more than 70 common word processing file formats, including HTML, PDF, Microsoft Office documents, e-mail, Lotus Notes and text documents. The solution also supports a broad range of operating system platforms including Microsoft Windows NT and 2000 and Sun Solaris.
