Malaysian bank opens document database to the Internet

Workers at Malaysia's OCBC Bank are now accessing customer account information and financial reports online with the help of document management technology.

All OCBC customer statements, advices and reports used to be printed and distributed manually to branch offices. Now workers in OCBC's headquarters and selected branches can access the customer information as well as operational and financial reports online. Documents are stored electronically at OCBC's headquarters and are viewable using INSCI's Coinserv document archival and retrieval system with a Web access capability. New INSCI reseller Fuji Xerox Malaysia installed the system.

When final installation is completed, workers at OCBC's 25 branch banks and offices will have access to information relating to customer accounts, customer advice and notices, and OCBC corporate information.

OCBC Bank anticipates the new system will reduce printing costs at each branch, and will allow the bank to compete in new and innovative ways
