Lotus introduces Workflow 3.0

Formerly known as Domino Workflow, Lotus Workflow 3.0 offers new features such as integration with IBM WebSphere through a new Java API, a new Web viewer that creates a more universal user experience and a fully customizable user interface.

Describing the rationale behind the name change, Lotus CEO Al Zollar says, “We can obviously serve existing domino customers, but we also need to make sure the market knows that workflow is a valuable solution from Lotus in its own right.”

Lotus explains new capabilities in Workflow 3.0 include:

  • greater support for Web standards such as Java APIs, XML and SOAP

  • incorporation of Sametime;

  • a fully customizable user interface decoupled from the back-end workflow services; and

  • support for Linux.

Lotus has also announced the release of software developer’s kits for the K-station portal and the Discovery Server, which, combined, comprise the Knowledge Discovery System.

The K-station Portlet SDK supports the joint portlet developers program K-station and the IBM WebSphere Portal Server. The Discovery Server SDK allows developers to manipulate the taxonomy generation, metrics information and expertise data and extend those tools into existing e-business applications, Lotus says.
