Kana and Broadbase merge

In a move designed to address the growing enterprise relationship management market, Kana Communications and Broadbase have announced plans to merge, pending shareholder approval. The agreement is expect to close in the third quarter.

Broadbase says it will bring its e-commerce infrastructure to the new venture, specifically its customer-focused analytic, marketing automation and e-service applications. The software analyzes customer data from multiple touch points and uses it to execute marketing campaigns, improve online merchandising and content, increase site stickiness and personalize customer interactions.

Kana Communications reports its solutions delivers personal portals that offer customers, partners and the enterprise a global view of their communications and relationships. This approach, Kana says, enables managing the full set of communications channels such as e-mail, Web, chat, instant message, VOIP, phone and person-to-person, as well as e-business and communications applications to integrate the marketing, sales and service functions.

Later this month, Kana plans to launching a new version of its Service platform, incorporating Enterprise Java Bean technology.
