Intraspect unveils knowledge sharing application

One of the key obstacles toward implementing a knowledge management system has been getting workers to populate the corporate knowledgebase without altering their workday habits and practices. Intraspect is coming out with a new version of its collaboration and knowledge sharing platform that makes this process nearly transparent.

Intraspect Release 2.0 is a platform that supports and facilitates the heterogeneous sharing and reuse of information among everyone in an enterprise. Users can add to, search through, and pull information from the Corporate Memory, a repository of various information sources, e.g. documents, spreadsheets, slides, E-mail messages, and Web pages. The system works with any E-mail system (via support for all MIME variants); documents, spreadsheets and other information formats are supported via SMTP as opposed to plug-ins. Included APIs offer rapid deployment; the installation is quick, but as with any new system there's basic training involved, and you'll have to populate the system. Other improvements include ease of use and administration and extensibility.

Key upgrades to Intraspect release 2.0 include user-defined subscriptions and notifications, and policy-based access control. Users can subscribe to public areas of the corporate memory base with specific criteria. Similarly, users can specify conditions whereby they're notified of changes or new additions to the corporate memory; for example, a salesperson receives notifications whenever a client is mentioned in an E-mail or document. Other notifications include replies to messages, updates or comments to documents and Web sites, or additions to folders in the corporate memory (e.g. status reports). Users can also add search results to their subscription profile, and are notified when new relevant links are added.

Access control and security improvements make sure that users have the appropriate access to the corporate memory. Several individual types of users are supported as are groups. Personal folders ensure privacy in case a user doesn't want certain information to be access by others.

Intraspect Version 2.0 will be announced at KMExpo, October 13-15 in Chicago; general availability is slated for November 1. Pricing will be $400 per end user, with volume pricing discounts available.
