Intraspect launches c-business focus

Intraspect, rallying around the just released version 3.0 of their Intraspect Knowledge Server and a partnership agreement with KPMG, is focusing its business on c-business.

C-business, the C for collaboration, is how Intraspect labels solutions--proven products and services for implementing collaborative business practices within and beyond the enterprise. Another way of looking at it would be putting a collaborative edge on the supply chain. Whatever it is called, CEO Jim Pflaging sees his company alone among software vendors in the position to deliver.

Some backing for that statement comes from KPMG, which initially looked to Intraspect’s IKS as the software to handle their own c-business needs.

“Collaboration has become mission-critical at KPMG and we were looking for a platform for collaborative knowledge management that would integrate well with our existing systems,” said Steve Cranford, partner-in-charge of KPMG’s knowledge management practice. “In looking at other companies that offer products and services for knowledge management and enterprise collaboration, we found that Intraspect could help us deliver our vision. And deliver they did: our c-business solution was implemented, customized and up and running in under 30 days.”

KPMG also saw its role in the implementation phase of other C-business applications, which led to a partnership with Intraspect, which includes a reseller agreement and an $11.5 million investment in Intraspect.

Intraspect simultaneously announced IKS 3.0.

New features are designed to make it easier to use, as well as taking it to an enterprise-wide level. IKS 3.0 leverages standards including Active Directory, LDAP, XML and HTML.

Other new benefits the company points to are:

• collaborative work environment via a group memory or knowledge repository, which eliminates the need to share drives.

• files and e-mails in the group memory can be organized by a project or program, not just sender and received date.

• the c-business solution software developer kit enables developers and partners to create and deploy comprehensive c-business solutions.

At least one analyst sees the gain in the new launch and the c-business positioning.

"The sharing of information and collaboration among knowledge workers are cornerstones for building the new intelligent enterprise," said Bob Moran, Research VP, decision support research at the Aberdeen Group. "Intraspect IKS 3.0 not only enables workers to easily tap the enterprise's intellectual capital, and not spend time looking for it, but it can also enable the enterprise to develop a much richer relationship with customers, suppliers and vendors. Intraspect's c-business solutions can quickly translate into substantial return on investment.
