Intellectual property management key for pharmaceuticals

Joining forces to leverage pharmaceutical companies' intellectual property (IP) and R&D efforts, Aurigin and Spotfire have integrated their software products to align drug development with market opportunities.

The latest version of Aurigin's Intellectual Property Asset Management (IPAM) system integrates the Spotfire Pro visual discovery software to identify patents that protect core products and technologies, track the IP movements of their competitors, and uncover threats to development strategies.

The system also relates IP assets to business practices by analyzing relevant corporate documents and industry-specific databases, so users can draw insights on data from a contextual viewpoint.

The combination will allow pharmaceutical companies to quickly view the competitive landscape, targeting areas ripe for innovation and sharpening the effectiveness of R&D resources, according to Mark O'Connor, Associate Director of Enterprise Knowledge Management at the Yankee Group.

IPAM can help automate paper-based tasks and turn innovation into revenue in an industry where effective management of IP is considered a best practice, not just a necessary business function, according to Aurigin CEO Kevin Rivette
