I, e-learning, take thee, KM

Hyperwave has released an integrated corporate e-learning offering that is fully integrated with its KM and portal offerings. The company says its eLearning Suite (eLS) provides a complete interactive learning environment in which trainees can access a comprehensive range of material and reference sources to meet their individual requirements.

Hyperwave says that communication between teachers, tutors and trainees is maximized through the inclusion of various channels such as a bulletin board, an e-mail messaging system and a discussion forum where students can exchange questions, answers and comments simultaneously. Hyperwave adds that a key feature of eLS is its use of Active Documents, which allows trainees to attach questions that are then answered by tutors or teachers. Over time, a collection of questions and answers is produced for every document. Course participants may also place personal or public comments in documents using electronic notes.

eLS contains a background library with more in-depth information from internal and external sources such as the Internet to provide a means of finding out more about the course content and to answer unanswered questions. A search engine (browser) provides rapid access in the search for key words or in full text of more than 200 document formats.

Hyperwave explains that the suite’s modular structure means that no HTML or programming knowledge is necessary to create courses on an intranet or the Internet. A “course wizard” automatically creates a course outline that includes both the navigation structure as well as a complete course room environment.

eLS is fully integrated with the Hyperwave Information Server (HIS) and Hyperwave Information Portal (HIP) offerings to provide customers with a complete knowledge management solution. HIS provides such features as bi-directional link integrity, granular security, document/content management, collaborative tools, an open API and universal access from browsers and desktops. HIP is an out-of-the-box corporate portal solution built on the HIS infrastructure and offers both aggregation and collaboration.

Hyperwave eLS supports multiple languages. It runs on Windows NT/2000, Linux, Solaris, AIX, HP-UX, and supports the Oracle 8 database. The new offering is available immediately
