Hewlett-Packard's New ScanJet 5100C Bundled With Caere's OmniPage

(Palo Alto, CA) have signed an agreement to bundle Caere's OmniPage Pro OCR software and new PageKeeper Lite document management software with HP's new ScanJet 5100C flatbed scanner. The 5100C, which replaces the ScanJet 5pse, also includes a trial "Try Before You Buy" version of OmniPage Pro; users can use OmniPage 25 times before deciding to upgrade to OmniPage or stay with HP's integrated OCR software. PageKeeper Lite is a step below Caere's PageKeeper Pro document management software. Also included in the 5100C is HP Intelligent Scanning Technology and HP ScanJet Copy Utility for scanning documents directly to a printer, and Adobe (San Jose) PhotoDeluxe image editing and publishing software. "HP's decision to bundle OmniPage OCR technology and PageKeeper Lite document management software reinforces the essential importance of these desktop tools," said Caere VP of strategic partners Larry Lunetta. Pricing for HP's ScanJet 5100C will be about $299.
