HDS and MTI Team Up for Storage Solutions

A deal aimed at the enterprise storage market has been signed by Hitachi Data Systems (Santa Clara, CA) and MTI (Anaheim, CA). The agreement includes mutual product development, joint marketing, and a cooperative service agreement. Under terms of the agreement, MTI will also integrate HDS technology into its Gladiator RAID product line. The combination will also MTI result in products for use with both open systems (UNIX and NT) and IBM System/390 mainframe connectivity. The agreement is a win-win for both companies, according to Thomas Lahive, an analyst with Gartner Group (Stamford, CT) subsidiary Dataquest (San Jose). "One of the most critical factors in becoming a heterogeneous storage supplier is the ability to sell and service complete solutions to the enterprise," he said. "The synergy of MTI's open systems expertise with HDS's mainframe capability is a formula for success."
