Free, cloud-based document collaboration

Perforce Software has launched Commons Cloud, a free cloud-based document collaboration solution. Commons Cloud combines social applications with the more sophisticated version management capabilities of advanced software development tools.

The company says Commons Cloud is well-suited for distributed teams that work in parallel on highly iterative digital assets, adding that it eliminates the manual effort of searching for the right file, resolving conflicts among file versions and merging edits to a document. Users can simply drag a file anywhere into system and the software’s File Valet stores the file to the right place, notifies teams of potential conflicts and recommends actions.

Perforce highlights the following capabilities of Commons Cloud:

  • easy file management;
  • automated compare and merge capabilities for Microsoft Word and PowerPoint files;
  • complete and permanent record of all files, edits and comments for traceability and transparency; and
  • notifications any time a file is modified or commented on.

Commons Cloud is now available for free. Perforce reports it takes just minutes to set up a team and begin collaborating.
