EnCyc Provides Web Publishing System for Weatherford

A Web publishing system from EnCyc (Holland, MI) now being used by Weatherford, a $1.1 billion, Houston-based oil and gas service company. Weatherford is using the EnCyc Marketing Encyclopedia system for maintaining a document library on its corporate internet. The system, designed for about 300 employees, will eventually be used "to channel job-critical information to nearly half of our 6,400 employees worldwide," said Howard Runser, director of information services. The system provides on-line access to Weatherford's 300-page policy and procedures guide and commonly used forms. Future plans call for marketing materials to be delivered across the intranet to Weatherford's sales force and to send targeted information to its customers. "EnCyc is the only software we found that allows us to reach all our audience groups from a single application with a zero-training user interface," said Runser. Weatherford wanted a system that could push information to its targeted audience through the company's intranet, extranet and the Internet, according to Stephen Lovett, Weatherford's network technologies manager. Weatherford looked at 25 to 30 net-based publishing products before choosing EnCyc. "We did not want to get into a situation where we were going to have to train people on how to create documents in HTML," said Lovett. The system was up and running after two days of training. "They worked closely every step of the way to make sure we had an effective deployment," he added.
