EDS and Eli Lilly to Form Healthcare Information Company

A new company offering connectivity for healthcare organizations is being formed by EDS (Plano, TX) and Eli Lilly (Indianapolis). Kinetra's mission will be to expand connections among office-based physicians, health insurers, hospitals, laboratories and retail pharmacists to make administrative and clinical information accessible from a single workstation instead of multiple systems. EDS will own 51% of Kinetra, which will absorb Integrated Medical Systems, a Lilly-owned business that provides connectivity systems for the healthcare industry. "Creating a network accessible to all health care participants is fundamental," said EDS vice chairman Gary Fernandes. "Through Kinetra, we're filling a void in a highly fragmented market and enabling real-time transactions among all parties. Kinetra will address "a real need in health care for a large, efficient electronic network that can bring payers and providers together," according to Eli Lilly executive VP and CFO Charles Golden.
