DocuCorp Acquires EZPower, Maitland Software

In a move to bolster its document automation position, DocuCorp (Dallas) has acquired EZPower (Philadelphia) and Maitland Software. Terms of both purchases were not disclosed. With EZPower, DocuCorp gets a top-notch Web-enabled document management system that will offer workflow functionality for its customers. EZPower's PowerOffice suite allows users "to share information from the Internet so that each acquires needed information in timely fashion and in the proper order," according to DocuCorp president and CEO Michael Andereck. The acquisition, with DocuCorp's coffers (soon to expand with a recent IPO announcement) and marketshare muscle gives EZPower "instant credibility," said EZPower president and CEO Sashi Reddi. "Customers of both DocuCorp and EZPower will benefit from the union of our complementary technologies." The purchase of Maitland Software solves a data collection problem DocuCorp has been trying to address. "Maitland's Transit software overcomes data collection obstacles that have frustrated programmers, including our own, since the inception of the document automation industry in the early 1980s," said Andereck. The combination of Maitland's unique data collection technology with DocuCorp's need for a multiple-platform data interface "makes us a natural match," according to Maitland co-founder James Gentsch. "We are technologically focused at Maitland," added co-founder David Rourke, "and we want to stay that way." DocuCorp's in-house resources and extensive customer base will allow Maitland "to propel acceptance of our technologies far beyond anything we could hope to reach on our own, while leaving us to concentrate on expanding our technology."
