Doc management helps state agency speed info flow

In a bid to improve information flow, The Commonwealth of Virginia's Department of Mines, Minerals and Energy (DMME) is making use of document management technology.

Using the system, DMME's 250 workers including remote field inspectors will be able to view, process and route information such as electronic permit applications from resource extraction companies statewide. The goal is to speed information flow and boost productivity within the government organization.

The Microsoft NT-based system uses Microsoft Exchange with imaging and workflow technology from Eastman Software. Alexandria, VA-based Radian Systems is performing integration and customization. The system reportedly cost DMME in the neighborhood of $320,000
