DoD to develop portals

The U.S. Department of Defense has announced that it is deploying Autonomy's Portal-in-a-Box software. The DoD will use the software to provide personalized portals to its military and civilian personnel.

"We're using Portal-In-A-Box to help all military personnel stay up to speed on developments related to their jobs," said William Vass, director of technical services for the U.S. Department of Defense.

According to Vass, the portals created with the software will be used to draw personalized information from its intranet and the Internet.

“All users have to do when they register for the first time is use plain English to describe the subjects they are interested in. Autonomy's software does the rest,” said Vass.

Portal-in-a-Box is designed to compile abstract background information on individual users and automatically locate that information from dynamic sources. It is designed to deliver that personalized information relating to explicit requests from the users or by tapping information the users has shown interest in previously.

“By using our software to automate the sorting, tagging, linking and routing of information, they will be able to provide a valuable service to all military personnel, without the expense of hiring additional staff," said Autonomy’s CEO Michael Lynch
