Dataware Posts First Profit Since 1995
Dataware (Cambridge, MA, Nasdaq: DWTI) reports Q4 '97 revenue of $7.8 million, down from $10.6 million reported in Q4 '96. A net income of $252,000 compares with a Q4 '96 net loss of $4.4 million. Q4 '97 revenues were negatively affected by the partial sale of Dataware's data service business to Information Handling Services (Englewood, CO) back in September. For the year, Dataware reports revenue of $37.3 million and a net loss of $4.3 million, compared with 1996 figures of $37.5 million and $19.3 million, respectively. Strong software sales and improved margins helped drive Q4 '97 revenue, according to chairman and CEO Kurt Mueller. "With Dataware's leaner operation, a focus on our software and multimedia businesses, a healthy balance sheet, and a strong new product cycle, we are entering 1998 with great optimism for the future." During the quarter Dataware unveiled the Dataware II Knowledge Management Suite, and acquired Green Book International, the makers of publishing software for financial institutions.
