Cygnet Storage Solutions acquires Elms storage technology

With the first acquisition in its history, Cygnet Storage Solutions has purchased Elms Systems' CD library and jukebox management technology for an undisclosed amount. With the deal, Cygnet gets Elms' DVL CD library technology as well as the Panorama line of jukebox management software. Cygnet had been working with Elms since September 1997 to market the Digital Versatile Library (DVL) CD Library under the id 100 brand name.

The deal represents "an important step in expanding [Cygnet's] high quality product offerings of CD/DVD storage solutions," said Cygnet marketing VP Wayne Augsburger. Cygnet plans to carry over and grow the quality of Elms' CD and DVD storage technology, and will pursue relationships with former Elms partners and suppliers, according to Amir Zahedi, Cygnet VP of engineering and operations.

John Barratt, Cygnet executive VP and COO, said that the acquisition "will create additional synergies for our company." Barratt also hinted that other acquisitions may be on the horizon as Cygnet looks to grow and prosper. "Acquisitions will continue to be a cornerstone of Cygnet's strategy of enhancing the company's leading position in niche markets and tactically accelerating its overall revenue growth," he said.
