Cook County Sheriffs Office Books NEC ID System

A customized intelligent identification and records management system is being implemented by NEC Technologies (Washington) at the Cook County, IL Sheriff's Office. The Criminal Apprehension and Booking System (CABS), which consists of over 100 workstations located throughout Cook County, will compliment the NEC AFIS fingerprint identification system currently in place at the Chicago Police Department and Illinois State Police. The new system will scan fingerprints and connections to AFIS and computerized criminal history records, which will help speed the booking process and verify criminals' identities when they move between facilities. The system involves cooperation between the Cook County Sheriff's Office, the Chicago PD and the Illinois State Police. "The ability to search the Illinois State Police and Chicago Police Department fingerprint databases increases our opportunity to identify recidivists immediately and helps in resolving criminal investigations," said Cook County Sheriff Michael Sheahan.
