Concept Searching Announces Availability of SharePoint Add-ins

Concept Searching, a provider of semantic metadata generation, auto-classification, and taxonomy management software, and developer of the Smart Content Framework, is making conceptClassifier for SharePoint and conceptClassifier for Office 365 available as Microsoft SharePoint Add-ins.

The products are available in the SharePoint 2013, SharePoint 2016, and SharePoint Online environments.

According to the vendor, clients will be offered the option to continue to use or purchase either the existing product or the Add-in.

Concept Searching says that Microsoft has been promoting the development of "Add-ins" to boost its ecosystem of third-party applications and services available in SharePoint and SharePoint Online, and Add-ins will form an important component of Microsoft’s plans for Office, especially as the company faces increased competition from startups and large companies alike. Allowing users to access other tools and applications from within Office 365, SharePoint, and SharePoint Online enhances the utility of both Microsoft’s software and that of the third parties’ contributing add-ins.

The decision to provide clients with this option offers several advantages:

  • The speed of processing in the SharePoint on-premises environment and SharePoint Online is significantly faster.
  • The Add-in requires no SharePoint resources, representing a major advantage, specifically in the SharePoint Online environment.
  • The Add-in needs less configuration and SharePoint sources do not require user credentials to be defined. This results in a decrease of deployment resources and costs.
  • Add-ins are also portable, protecting clients’ software investment.

“Concept Searching has a history of being a leader in its field, continually delivering innovative and leading-edge technology," said John Challis, CTO and CEO of Concept Searching. "This development approach will provide our clients with the latest technology and at the same time enable the reduction of resources and costs, improve performance, and protect their investments.”

Provider-hosted SharePoint add-ins include components that are deployed and hosted outside the SharePoint farm. conceptClassifier for SharePoint, Concept Searching’s flagship product, is now also configured as a SharePoint provider-hosted Add-in. The Add-in is registered with the SharePoint environment and linked to the remote Concept Searching server, or servers – this enables two-way communication between SharePoint and the core Concept Searching services.
