Compaq goes deep with Microsoft

In a move sure to strengthen its already well-respected professionalservices division, Compaq has received official endorsement from Microsoftas prime integrator for the software giant's Exchange 2000. Microsoft expects to have 10,000 seats installed by June as part of its early installation program.

During an interview with KMWorld, Lex Dekkers, Compaq's director of knowledge management and messaging solutions, said, "Exchange 2000 represents a new paradigm of functionality, with enhanced scalability and web functionality and scalability. But it's a significant integration. If you want to make the plunge, you need a safe and competent path. We hear all the time, 'I want to go with 2000, but what does it really entail?' " Dekkers said Compaq has more than 850 Exchange specialists; so far, 150 of them are certified in 2000. "We have a long-standing, productive relationship with Microsoft, and by the launch we'll be able to offer more and more services," he said. Compaq will work with Microsoft Consulting Services facilitate upgrading to Exchange 2000 and has formed a new service - Preparation Assessment for Microsoft Exchange 2000 - to help customers better understand their business environment and maximize the benefits of their investment.

Dekkers added that in the very near future Compaq will announce another major business alliance, and you'll see it here first when it becomes official.
