Cognos Unveils New Version of OLAP Product

Cognos (Burlington, MA) has unveiled Version 5.5 of its PowerPlay Server Web Edition. The new version of Cognos' Web-based OLAP product features distributed processing and load balancing, cube-to-cube drill through capabilities, and new support for UNIX servers as well as Windows NT. Users can access data sources (called PowerCubes) posted in databases or LANs to enable multidimensional analysis via the Internet or intranet through a standard browser. PowerPlay Server Web Edition Version 5.5 will be available at the end of February for HP/UX, Sun Solaris and IBM AIX, and Windows NT. Pricing begins at $40,000 for a 100-user NT server license, and at $75,000 for a 200-user UNIX server license. Volume discounts are available.
