Capitalizing on intellectual property

The Patent & License Exchange (pl-x.com) has introduced new intellectual property (IP) marketing services. The company reports these tools and services will allow pl-x.com subscribers to efficiently market their technologies to those interested in licensing or purchasing the innovations.

Rather than simply permitting a user to search patent abstracts by keyword, pl-x.com’s IP marketing services allow subscribers to provide a detailed list of their IP assets’ quantitative attributes, competitive advantages and proven applications, the company says. This performance information allows technology buyers to find the exact technology solution that they are looking to license or purchase.

Company officials explain that because a patent is a call option on technology, pl-x applies standard financial tools to create value from intangible assets. In addition to the marketing services, the tools include an online, interactive IP marketplace, the Technology Risk/Reward Unit (TRRU) Metrics IP valuation system and transaction assurance services.
