Better days for Baan

Last September, then-struggling Baan became part of Invensys Software Systems division. Its fortunes have improved since the acquisition, as evident from its recent announcement that IBM Global Services will implement iBaan to extend its support for customers looking to develop e-business infrastructures. Earlier, Bann selected DB2 as its primary database platform for the Unix operating system.

The IBM eServer line supports all Baan applications. Also, Baan's XML-based iBaan OpenWorld solution is closely aligned with IBM's MQ Series middleware, enabling an open infrastructure for creating a complete supplier repository with a platform for businesses to share real-time purchasing information online.

Baan says IBM customers will benefit from iBaan's zero-footprint, thin client-based architecture and ease of implementation, as well as its personalized role-based portals. The companies report they will build upon their close working relationship.
