BEA Offers KM Solution for Application Development

Discussion about knowledge management often circles around the technologies of document management, workflow, imaging, storage, and search and retrieval. At the heart of any KM system is the need to capture, retrieve, and apply the knowledge already flowing within the organization. A new suite of applications from BEA Systems (Sunnyvale, CA) addresses KM from the programmer's perspective. The new additions to the BEA Builder suite of products are designed to leverage the existing skills of an organization's programming staff to help build and deploy BEA Tuxedo applications. The suite includes Active Expert, which eliminates the need to learn detailed APIs and administrative applications, and provides OLE integration and ActiveX client support. The suite provides basic tools and documentation to help make Tuxedo programming easier, as well as references to past Tuxedo services so programmers can reuse existing code. Sample application code for Visual Basic, PowerBuilder, and Visual C++ is also included. Using the suite, programmers "leverage the skills they've already developed," according to BEA executive VP and CTO Alfred Chuang, and decrease the time required to get Tuxedo client-based applications up and running.
