Axtel has the answer for deskew

Adding to its existing software development kit, Axtel (Fountain Valley, CA,

http://www.axtel.com) has released an image positioning engine that combines automatic image positioning and skew correction in a single operation. Axtel claims that the AX-3 engine (starting at $395) can processes an 8.5-in. x 11-in. document image in as little as .1 second--fast enough for on-the-fly processing without any reduction in scanner speed.

The software engine contains three independent sensors--image skew angle, left border of content and top border of content. The engine rotates the image and positions it against programmable left and top margins without special markers embedded in the image.

Sequencing through a number of documents on a CRT is easier since all the documents appear in exactly the same position on the screen. OCR and other information retrieval engines need no longer search for a particular data field; all fields are in a known position.
