AltaVista Enterprise Search 2.0

AltaVista Software announces Enterprise Search 2.0, which, it says, introduces open architecture, document-level security and option auto-categorization functionality. The company adds that this “universal view” approach to information retrieval removes the barriers to finding information by eliminating the need for users to learn or launch multiple applications when looking for data.

Its application-agnostic architecture enables 2.0 users to take advantage of features provided by the most commonly used application servers, delivers support for industry standards and speeds deployment. AltaVista adds that it protects corporations' existing technology investments by providing compatibility, customization and easy integration with enterprise legacy systems.

Its document-level security framework limits user access to only those indexes and documents to which he or she has permission. AltaVista says its software employs security agents to prompt users for credentials and check for authorization while maintaining a true enterprisewide search and retrieval solution.

The optional AutoCategorizor software is offered as an add-on module to organize information into intuitive directories to promote an easy, logical search within the enterprise search environment, says the company.
