AIIM NEWS: Capture and process digital objects, not just text

NEWS FROM AIIM '99: New software for processing all sorts of digital objects including sound and video is now available from Star Technologies subsidiary Powerscan (booth 1135).

Powerscan's Integrated Digital Environment Access (IDEA) technology collects information from scanners, Email, faxes, color photographs, Web pages and video clips. "Snap-in" engines allow different components to transfer information into the IDEA software: TWAIN and OCR drivers for scanners and forms/document processing, ActiveX, Visual Basic, etc. Future releases will be able to handle audio and full-motion video.

By processing objects in addition to text information, IDEA addresses how businesses communicate and manage knowledge in today's digital economy, according to Powerscan president Curtis Abel.

The IDEA software suite is available in desktop, department or enterprise configurations, with support for major databases like SQL, Oracle and Sybase. A barebones version of IDEA is also available, with basic scanning, recognition, and indexing capabilities.
