A new designer ailment--Information Fatigue Syndrome

A survey published by Reuters (New York,

http://www.reuters.com) suggests that an excess of information is strangling business and causing personnel to suffer mental anguish and physical illness.

According to the survey, the results of information glut are: procrastination and time wasting, the delaying of important business decisions, distraction from main job responsibilities, tension, stress and loss of job satisfaction, even illness and the breakdown of personal relationships.

Reuters reports that one in four of the over 1,300 managers surveyed admitted to suffering ill health as a result of the amount of information they handle, although half admit they need information to do their jobs.

One in five managers surveyed believe that substantial amounts of time are wasted collecting and searching for information. Almost two thirds (62%) of managers testify that their personal relationships suffer as a result of information overload.
